Things to do for Stay at Home Mums

By Melanie

Being a stay at home mum comes with a whole range of challenges and rewards. One thing that we find ourselves seeking out in the home are things to do for ourselves, rather than just chores. In this article, we have some suggestions that you can use to make things more interesting.

Taking up a hobby can be great fun, especially if you find one that you can fit around looking after the kids. There are many artistic projects that you can check out on Pinterest that will suit a beginner. These DIY projects can help you to upcycle your rubbish into things that you can actually use in the home.

Home baking is a great way to whip up some treats while you’re at home. You don’t need to go with old fashioned recipes either, there are so many Facebook pages dedicated to step by step video recipes with a twist. These include some real show stoppers, which you can use to impress your family and friends. If you’re a novice baker, don’t worry, videos will show you exactly what to do and the techniques you need.

Sometimes, as stay at home mums, we can feel a bit isolated from the outside world. A social activity can be a great way to reconnect with others and speak to grownups for a change. A book club is a brilliant activity that you can look forward to weekly or monthly. In between meetings you can read chapters whenever you get a chance and make notes on the topics you’d like to discuss next time.

Bingo might strike you as something that your gran would do, but there’s a bustling online community for it. If you can’t find the time to commit to something like a book club then this can be an alternative social activity. There are hosted rooms on bingo sites like Rocket Bingo or Mecca Bingo, in which you can chat with others and also win yourself a jackpot or two. Top 5 Decorating tips for the Kids Room

By Melanie

If you are decorating a kids room its easy to forget the fine line between play and sleep! The way you end up decorating the kids room is largely up to you and of course dependent on the sex of the children that will inhabit it, but whatever the size, style and intention of the room, here are our top 5 tips to help you along.

1.) Colors

Colors a great in kids rooms, but be warned! Colors affect mood, and with some colors, less is more. If you want your children to be hyperactive and full of energy, then go for oranges which are well known to stimulate and wake up anyone who sits in a room with orange in it. Orange aside, colors can be bright, but mixed with white in order to restore some form of energy balance, so your children can sleep. Cartoons, murals and other wall art work well in kids rooms but should be limited to sections or corners to prevent overstimulation at bedtime. If the room is too meek, and pale or dark then you are likely to get more night terrors as there is too much blank space for your child’s mind to experiment with. Any area where your children will be sleeping should be kept calm and separate from the rest of the room so that you children can switch off and wind down at bedtime.

2.) Furniture

The children’s furniture you choose should be based on how easy and accessible it is for your children (or how accessible you want it to be!) rather than aesthetics alone. As pretty as certain children’s furniture sets can be, they will quickly annoy you if you are constantly being summoned by your children for them to get access to the things they want or need. However, many families are often bored because they don’t know how to spend the day. Fortunately, there are a number of things that you can do to enjoy it.

The Weekend Isn’t Over Yet!

Many people dread the thought of returning to school or work. That is a terrible way to waste the day. Sunday is one of the only two days that you have off every week, so why not make the most of it?

There are a number of things that you can do to enjoy the day with your family. You should all be able to find something that you will all enjoy.

Go Out for Brunch

Many people enjoy going out for brunch with their families on Sundays. This is a great thing to do after you have gone to church or picked your children up from their free Sunday school for kids. Dennys and a number of other chain restaurants started offering brunch menus in recent years (the Huevos Rancheros is one of the most popular brunch items on Dennys new menu). Many smaller restaurants have started offering their own brunch menus as well.
