I’ve been thinking about you lately. Yep, you. Blogging brings me great joy, and I have been thinking lately that maybe you would enjoy it too.
Have you ever considered blogging? Maybe you think it’s for those “other” people. You know, the ones who are tech-savvy, have lots of free time, and are rich and famous.
…. one second… I need to have a little laugh…. Okay, I’m ready to continue now.
I’m sharing my top 5 reasons why I really think that YOU, sweet friend, should consider starting a blog.
1. Blogging is EASY!
Blogging is so easy. I know so many people who are scared that it is complicated. Let me tell you, it really is very simple. If you can use Word and send emails, you can blog.
Trust me on this one! You CAN do it!
2. Blogging is FREE!
Free hobby alert! This hobby requires no special supplies or training. Your home won’t be a huge mess with lots of supplies, I promise. All you need is a laptop, and you are good to go.
I recommend that new bloggers start out by setting up a free account on WordPress.com. It takes literally two minutes to set up an account. You can pick a free design, and BAM! You’re ready to start writing your little heart out! How great is that?! Later on down the road, if you decide that you love blogging, you can always migrate to a more robust platform (this is what I did and would choose the same path again in a heartbeat).
3. Connect with Others!
Blogging is a wonderful way to connect with others who share similar interests. When I started blogging, my youngest son was a baby. I was working full-time, with two little boys, and a husband who travelled a great amount for work… and quite honestly, I was lonely. One day, I heard about this “blogging thing” and decided to give it a try. After my kids were in bed, I would write at my blog. Before long….. these strangers started showing up and leaving comments.
It startled me so much, I emailed the first person who left a comment and asked them how they found my blog! I have a vivid imagination and thought I was being stalked by serial killers. It turns out that this ”serial killer commenter” was the sweetest lady!!! Ha! I can’t believe I am admitting this! 🙂
I’ve met so many wonderful friends through blogging. I’ve even had the opportunity to meet them in person and hug their sweet non-serial-killer necks!!!
4. Blogging Can Open Other Doors!
If you are a writer wannabe like me, blogging can open many doors such as connecting with authors and publishers! If you are an entrepreneur, blogging can connect you to a potential market and provides a great way to get immediate audience feedback! If you love cooking, blogging could one way lead to your first cookbook! If you are a photographer, blogging can help spread your name and business to more clients!
There are so many possibilities!
5. Blogging Can Help You Process
Writing my thoughts helps me process my thoughts. I don’t know your situation, but maybe you are going through a difficult time. Perhaps at the beginning of this new year, you are making resolutions to conquer a weight battle, to get healthy, to improve your relationships, or deal with grief. Blogging is a wonderful way to help process thoughts you may be having and to sort them out.
The most frequent comment I receive on my blog is that people appreciate my transparency and authenticity. Sweet friends, I have to admit that I fought this for the longest time. I was really afraid to put myself out there for fear that readers would think I was silly. However, my writing is the way that my heart processes feelings that are otherwise a jumbled mess. When the words hit the screen, I really discover how I am feeling. It’s like putting together a jigsaw puzzle using words. So, if you sometimes need a way to process, consider blogging as an online journal (even if you want to maintain a private blog so that you are the only person to see your words!)
Today’s Blogging Tips:
1. Use Grammarly for proofreading because auto-corrected blog posts can some toons bean hairy, I mean “sometimes be scary”.
2. Google images are not free for personal blog use. They are copyrighted images, so please look for only images approved for blog use.
3. Don’t pressure yourself! You don’t need to post every single day. Blogging (at least for most of us) is not a full-time job. It’s just a hobby and should be FUN! 🙂 Enjoy it!
